Norah's First Birthday!
Norah's first birthday didn't go how I imagined it would, but in the end, we managed to have a quick and relatively happy celebration by all. Norah got sick the Saturday before her birthday with the stomach flu. She wasn't able to keep anything down. We took her to the doctor on Monday, and after doing Pedialyte and gradual introduction to formula she seemed well enough to go to daycare on her birthday. In the meantime Janina also got the stomach bug and was out Monday and Tuesday, sleeping on our couch. Anyway, off Norah went on Wednesday to see her friends, but by noon I got the call that she threw up. So, back to the doctor we went, and then we changed strategies from Pedialyte and formula to Pedialyte and solid food, no formula. And, to add to the fun, Rick caught the stomach bug too! So, he came home from work early and went straight to bed. Thus, the actual night of Norah's birthday we had 2 not feeling well. Janina had recovered by Wednesday, and was able to wrap gifts and bake Norah's birthday cake for the small celebration. We managed to get everyone up to have cake and open gifts and then the sick ones went to bed. By Friday Norah was on the road to normalcy. The Pedialyte and solid food diet worked, and we gradually got her back on formula as well (though now we are working to transition off it completely) and she went back to daycare once again. However, throwing up on your birthday and having to go to the doctor is not a lot of fun. :-( Norah was a trooper though and everyone recovered in time for Norah's birthday party that Saturday (see the next post).
